LA PORTE CITY, Iowa - Special teams carried
Union (La Porte City, Iowa) to a 63-20 victory over Mt. Vernon (Iowa) on Saturday as the return units contributed three touchdowns. The Knights's special teams scored on three punt returns.
After taking the lead on a punt return touchdown by
Jay Scheel in the first quarter, Union led 56-20 at the half.
UHS expanded its lead to 43 points entering the fourth quarter. The La Porte City school's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown pass by Scheel.
With the win the Knights extended their winning streak to nine games. Union defeated the Sailors 50-0 last week.
The Mustangs' Marshall Tuerler played well. He ran for two touchdowns.
UHS's most effective player was
Trev Hadachek. The senior wide receiver ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown.
Mt. Vernon came in surrendering 17.9 points per game this season.
