Even though the Tivy Antlers scored an imposing 64 points on Tuesday, the Wagner Thunderbirds still came out on top. Wagner secured a 68-64 W over the Antlers. Given Wagner's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Antlers are ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcus Johnson went supernova for Wagner, scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds. Johnson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Daimen Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Wagner is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. As for Tivy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wagner will challenge the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Veterans Memorial sitting on 24 straight victories and the Thunderbirds on four. As for Tivy, they will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pieper focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
