Even though the Troy Flying Horses scored an imposing 78 points on Friday, the Schenectady Patriots still came out on top. Schenectady secured a 82-78 W over Troy. Given Schenectady's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Troy is ranked 592nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Troy saw an underclassman step up: Stetson Merritt scored 27 points. Another player making a difference was Legend Merritt, who scored 14 points.
Schenectady pushed their record up to 7-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.3 points per game. As for Troy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Schenectady will take on Albany at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Albany has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 337 points over their last five matches. As for Troy, they will be playing at home against Albany Academy for Boys at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. Albany Academy for Boys is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
