Softball Recap: St. Paul Takes a Loss

After flying high against Port Clinton on Saturday, St. Paul came back down to earth. The Flyers came up short against the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains on Monday, falling 12-3. The loss continues a trend for the Flyers in their meetings with the Chieftains: they've now lost six in a row.

Isabella Guerra put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Guerra wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Kalizewski, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

St. Paul's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Hopewell-Loudon, the victory also got them back to even at 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. St. Paul will face off against St. Mary Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hopewell-Loudon, they will square off against Fostoria at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Redmen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 22.25 runs per game on average), something the Chieftains will no doubt try to take advantage of.
