Valencia is a perfect 10-0 against Grants since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Jaguars will head out to take on the Pirates at 3:00 p.m. Valencia has given up an average of 12.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Valencia is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Belen on Tuesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (15-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Meanwhile, Grants had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Hawks get on the board and left with a 15-0 win.
Olivia Toivanen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Toivanen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Melory Largo looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Raeyna Valdez was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Delilah Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Grants always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Grants now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Valencia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Valencia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Grants struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Valencia beat Grants 19-14 when the teams last played on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
