5A Northwest Oregon recap Oct. 31, 2012
Sherwood extended the longest winning streak in 5A Northwest Oregon this week by beating Putnam, 63-14. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Sherwood took down the Kingsmen 63-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Joseph Balfour threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 15 yards in the win.
Wilsonville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Highberger threw for 214 and two touchdowns and Ryan Walsh had 87 yards receiving. On the ground Walsh chipped in 65 yards. Tanner Shipley helped Wilsonville's passing attack out by catching three balls for 85 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Gage Bumgardner of St. Helens is the league leader in passing yards this season with 770. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, the Wildcats' Shipley has rushed for 1299 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Walsh. The Wilsonville star has 11 catches for 443 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Sherwood takes on second place Wilsonville. Last week, Greg Lawrence's team topped Putnam, while Wilsonville bested Sandy.
The Bowmen led 5A Northwest Oregon in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Brad Lewman's team. Balfour in the win.
