The Watervliet Cannoneers lost against the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Watervliet fell 61-52 to Coxsackie-Athens. While losing is never fun, Watervliet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Coxsackie-Athens is ranked 147th).
Coxsackie-Athens' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Sitcer, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Baileigh Briski, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds.
Watervliet's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Coxsackie-Athens, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-3.
Watervliet does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Coxsackie-Athens, they will square off against Greenville at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Coxsackie-Athens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
