It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but School Without Walls had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They blew past the Banneker Bulldogs 19-10. Considering the Penguins have won nine games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Maeve Cunningham made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ashley Ayala-Rubio was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Anna Morelli, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
School Without Walls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .727. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in eight consecutive matches.
School Without Walls pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Banneker, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-3-1 record.
