The St. John Fighting Herald won against the Mathews Mustangs last Wednesday with 44 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. St. John walked away with a 44-34 win over Mathews. The win was familiar territory for St. John who now have six in a row.
St. John got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mickey Zheng out in front who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Zheng has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last ten times she's played. alyssa cevera was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.
St. John has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Mathews, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.
St. John will head out on the road to square off against Grand Valley at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Grand Valley is coming into the contest with three straight victories at home, so St. John is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Mathews will take on Lordstown at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lordstown comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 13 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
