The Mountain Pointe Pride suffered their biggest defeat since December 11, 2023 on Friday. They were dealt a 62-29 defeat at the hands of Campo Verde. While losing is never fun, Mountain Pointe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Campo Verde is ranked 50th).
Mountain Pointe's loss came despite strong showings from Amiyah Dedrick and Alexis Emerson-Berryhill. Dedrick scored ten points along with nine rebounds, while Emerson-Berryhill scored 13 points along with three steals.
Mountain Pointe struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Campo Verde racked up 16 assists.
It was another big night for Kelsey Watts, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 20 rebounds for Campo Verde. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Watts has scored all season. Kdynce Parks was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Mountain Pointe's loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Campo Verde, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Pointe won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Combs at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. Combs is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Campo Verde, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Casteel at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Casteel is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
