Football Recap: Kennedy Piles Up the Points Against Pioneer Valley

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Kennedy on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Pioneer Valley Panthers out of the water with a 51-6 final score. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Panthers are ranked 666th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Cristian Hernandez and Jace Demacabalin. Hernandez rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns while Demacabalin rushed for 92 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. Those 86 rushing yards gave Hernandez a new career-high. Isaiah Feathers got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Kennedy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Feathers and Espn Cantu. Jaythan Pascua was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

The victory made it two in a row for Kennedy and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 19 points in those games. As for Pioneer Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kennedy will host Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' defense has only allowed five points per game this season, so the Thunderbirds' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Pioneer Valley, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cabrillo at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
