5A Region IV District 30 recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Region IV District 30 this week, Sharyland beat Edinburg North 28-14. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Rattlers.
Juarez-Lincoln scaled the state rankings by moving to 820 from 860 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Juarez-Lincoln was able to move up by topping Edinburg 15-13.
Diego Chrysler was a passing and rushing force as Sharyland topped the Cougars. He completed 18 passes for 192 yards and also ran for 8 yards. Chrysler's favorite target this week was Christian Martinez, who caught 4 passes for 70 yards.
Michael Gonzalez was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 74 yards on 14 carries as Ron Adame's team bested Edinburg North. Lance Madden also contributed to the rushing game with 37 yards on the ground.
The Rattlers' Chrysler and Martinez have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A Region IV District 30 in both passing and receiving yards. Chrysler has thrown for 1,627 yards this season, while Martinez has 33 catches for 816 yards. Matthew Whitesides from Roy Garza's team leads the league in rushing with 1,138 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Sharyland takes on Vela. At the moment, the Rattlers are in first, while the Sabercats are in fifth.
Donna made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,854 from 6,348. The improvement was the result of a 24-6 victory over Economedes last week.
