We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Horizon Honors will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Horizon Honors had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Veritas Prep on Wednesday. Horizon Honors never let Veritas Prep get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Zach Hull made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Holweger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Desert Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Santa Rita 18-1 on Thursday. Desert Christian's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Horizon Honors, Desert Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Samuel Alday. He struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Alday a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Caden Esquerra was a standout: he scored four runs while going 3-for-3. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Craig, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Desert Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Rita struck out ten times.
Horizon Honors' record is now 7-2-1. As for Desert Christian, they moved to 2-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Horizon Honors has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Desert Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
