Archer City is 0-8 against Windthorst since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Archer City Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Windthorst Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Archer City missed an extra point against Haskell on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Archer City and Haskell were almost perfectly matched up, but Archer City suffered an agonizing 34-33 defeat. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Archer City was just barely outscored by Haskell in the second.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Landon Smith, who threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Laine Hall, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Windthorst got themselves on the board against Munday on Thursday, but Munday never followed suit. They blew past the Moguls, posting a 56-0 win at home. The result was nothing new for Windthorst, who have now won three matches by 34 points or more so far this season.
Brock Belcher continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 241 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown. Kolby Teakell was another key contributor, picking up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Archer City's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Seymour and 4-3 Henrietta (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.9% over those games). Windthorst is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Archer City lost to Windthorst at home by a decisive 28-13 margin when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Archer City, Logan Cope (who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 173 yards and a touchdown while completing 84.6% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
