5A Portland recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Jefferson, who took down 112th ranked Jefferson, 26-14.
Wilson's Cory Hincks recorded the longest rushing play in 5A Portland this season in his game against Roosevelt last week. Hincks scampered for 54 yards on the play and finished with 369 on the day as his team beat the Roughriders.
Roosevelt's dynamic duo of Kimane Domena and Antonio Bella proved tough for Wilson to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Domena threw for 100 yards and one touchdown and Bella had 106 yards receiving. Jairo Lopez helped Roosevelt's passing attack out by catching one ball for 55 yards.
Christian Swain's team's Domena and Bella have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Domena has thrown for 776 yards this season, while Bella, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 25 catches for 481 yards. Hincks from Ken Duilio's team leads the league in rushing with 787 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Democrats take on the Trojans. Jefferson is in fifth place, while Wilson is in first place.
The Trojans moved up to 56 from 88 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Portland. A 47-21 win over the Roughriders helped Wilson improve its standing.
