The Trenton Tigers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Tioga Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Trenton beat Whitewright 41-31.
Trenton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Micah Wommack led the charge by rushing for 72 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 65 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Wommack is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Gray, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Tioga's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their tough 62-38 loss to Nocona might stick with them for a while. Tioga was down 55-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Hayden Hilliard put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns. Austin Norwood was another key contributor, picking up 70 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Trenton's win bumped their season record to 4-4 while Tioga's loss dropped theirs to 5-3.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Trenton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 349 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tioga struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Trenton was taken down by Tioga 42-3 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Trenton have more luck at home instead of on the road?
