Mount Dora is 0-7 against Bishop Moore since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Hurricanes will head out to take on the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mount Dora 3.9, Bishop Moore 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Mount Dora is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Ocoee on Wednesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. Hurricanes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Knights since Wednesday.
Mount Dora got a good showing from Rory Irwin, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Irwin has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ethan McLain was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Caleb Fullen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Bishop Moore strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Edgewater as they made off with a 12-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Bishop Moore also got a great performance from JT Costello as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Costello a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Lomas, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Nick Wolsonovich also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Bishop Moore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive games.
Mount Dora's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Bishop Moore, their record now sits at 13-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mount Dora has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bishop Moore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mount Dora couldn't quite finish off Bishop Moore when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Hurricanes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
