Jeannette and Clairton are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2017, but not for long. The Jeannette Jayhawks will stay at home for another week and welcome the Clairton Bears at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Jeannette had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They claimed a resounding 49-12 win over Springdale at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-6.
Payton Molter got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 293 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Sanders, who gained 170 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Clairton entered their tilt with Frazier with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Clairton took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 50-6 victory over Frazier. Given Clairton's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Frazier is ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clairton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drahcir Jones, who rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Jones was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Donte Wright was another key contributor, rushing for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Jeannette's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Clairton, their victory was their seventh straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Jeannette has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 217 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Clairton struggles in that department as they've been even better at 234.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Jeannette was taken down by Clairton 43-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Jeannette, Capone Jones (who threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
