After flying high against the Ramah Mustangs last Saturday, the Pine Hill Warriors came back down to earth. Pine Hill fell 62-52 to Zuni on Saturday. Pine Hill lost against Zuni in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 79-60 score last time.
Virances Martinez and Nevaeh Natan certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Martinez scored 22 points along with three steals, while Natan scored 11 points along with three steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Pine Hill's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-5. As for Zuni, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Pine Hill will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Menaul at 4:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Menaul is ranked 96th, while Pine Hill is ranked 88th). As for Zuni, they will head out on the road to face off against Rehoboth Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
