Basketball Game Preview: Brookhaven Panthers vs. South Pike Eagles

The Brookhaven Panthers will face off against the South Pike Eagles at 1:15 p.m. on Monday. Brookhaven knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully South Pike likes a good challenge.

Brookhaven is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Lawrence County to the tune of 75-37 on Tuesday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 53.3 points per game.

Brookhaven got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was NICHOLAS GAMBLE out in front who shot 64% from the field to rack up 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. GAMBLE is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played. TRISTION THOMAS was another key player, putting up eight points and seven steals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Pike, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 58-48 win over Natchez on Tuesday.

Brookhaven's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for South Pike, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Brookhaven was able to grind out a solid victory over South Pike when the teams last played back in November, winning 60-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
