There's no place like home for the Northeast Hurricanes, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Monday. They took their matchup at home on Wednesday with ease, bagging a 66-11 victory over Chaminade-Madonna. Given Northeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Lions are ranked 612th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northeast's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ya?Niyah Young, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Young has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riniya Jean-Baptiste, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five assists.
Despite the loss, Chaminade-Madonna saw an underclassman step up: Jasmine Horne scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks. That was a full 63.6% of Chaminade-Madonna's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Chaminade-Madonna struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Northeast racked up 20 assists.
Northeast's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Chaminade-Madonna, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Northeast will face off against the Falcons at TBD on Monday. As for Chaminade-Madonna, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sharks at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
