Baseball Recap: Austin Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sharpstown

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Austin). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sharpstown Apollos a 29-0 shutout on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Chritian Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Austin is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-15 otherwise. Gonzalez was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Greg Leon was excellent, firing off seven RBI, two triples, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Drew Elam was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Austin's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-16. As for Sharpstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-16.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Austin is set to challenge their familiar foe Galena Park at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sharpstown will square off against rival Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
