The Horizon Scorpions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Parkland, falling 44-13. Horizon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-0.
Parkland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaleb Martinez, who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Martinez's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Another player making a difference was ERIK ORTIZ, who threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes.
Horizon's loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Del Valle and 10-2 Fort Stockton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.2% over those games). As for Parkland, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Horizon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Parkland will take on Lubbock-Cooper at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lubbock-Cooper knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matchups -- so hopefully Parkland likes a good challenge.
