Gretna has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Bryan Bears at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Gretna's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups.
Last Friday, Gretna faced the Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Gretna snuck past the Eagles with a 64-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Gretna's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alec Wilkins, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Pokorski, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, even though Benson scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, Bryan still came out on top. Bryan secured a 61-55 W over the Bunnies. Given Bryan's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Bunnies are ranked 167th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
A'mare Bynum continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 5-for-7 from deep and dropping a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. LC Doss was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Gretna pushed their record up to 14-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Bryan, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Gretna have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 53.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Bryan struggles in that department as they've made 43.4% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Gretna strolled past the Bears when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 57-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gretna since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
