The Highland Trojans will challenge the Twin Lakes Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Highland had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Bethesda Christian on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Patriots an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Trojans have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Skylar Zoeteman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning two RBI and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Evie Rivera was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Highland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Twin Lakes lost 14-1 to Rossville on Friday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Highland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Twin Lakes, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
Twin Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Highland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Twin Lakes, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Highland's sizable advantage in that area, the Indians will need to find a way to close that gap.
