While losing is never fun, Clear Spring can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Smithsburg is ranked 74th).
Leading Smithsburg to victory were Skyla Mastronardi and Claire Bono. Mastronardi scored 21 points, while Bono scored 23 points. The matchup was Mastronardi's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Maren McFarland, who scored 11 points.
Clear Spring bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Smithsburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Clear Spring will head out on the road to face off against Allegany on Monday. As for Smithsburg, they will be playing at home against Governor Thomas Johnson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
