The victory was all the more spectacular given Cartersville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while Gilmer is ranked 145th).
DJ Cain continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Daeyln Hall was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cartersville's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Gilmer, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cartersville will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Paulding at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Gilmer and North Murray will face off at 4:30 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. North Murray is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
