On Saturday, the John Marshall Justices faced the Alexandria City Titans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. John Marshall walked away with a 73-61 victory over Alexandria City. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Damon Thompson Jr was his usual excellent self, scoring 39 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Latrell Allmond, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds.
Alexandria City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Darius Bivins, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Kye Robinson who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Bivins is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Christian "CJ" Washington was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
The victory makes it two in a row for John Marshall and bumps their season record up to 11-3. As for Alexandria City, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3.
John Marshall will take on Freeman at 7:01 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeman will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 215th, while John Marshall is ranked third). As for Alexandria City, they will head out on the road to face off against West Springfield at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
