The Fort Hancock Mustangs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They really took it to El Paso HomeSchool for the full four quarters, racking up a 78-45 win at home. The win was some much needed relief for Fort Hancock as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Fort Hancock's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emmanuel Herrera, who scored 27 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaid Hermosillo, who shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds.
El Paso HomeSchool lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Clay Cranson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Ethan Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Even though they lost, El Paso HomeSchool smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Hancock only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Fort Hancock's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for El Paso HomeSchool, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Hancock will take on the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for El Paso HomeSchool, they will be playing at home against the at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
