Softball Recap: Heritage Wins Going Away Against Westwood

It's playoff time, and Heritage had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let Westwood get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Monday. The game marked Heritage's most dominant win of the season.

Kelly Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Brown was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, Jayleigh Melendez and Chloey Dieter did most of the damage at the plate: Melendez went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Dieter went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Melendez has posted since back in April of 2024. Emma Aldana was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Heritage's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-15. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Westwood, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Looking ahead, Heritage will face off against Sebastian River at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sharks have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. Westwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
