The Spring Creek Spartans suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Fernley, falling 69-18. Spring Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Brianna Dimick and
Delilah Bautista, who each put up six points. Dimick also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Isabel Zubiria took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fernley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taylor Tollestrup, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Tollestrup has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmyne Torres, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five steals.
Spring Creek has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Fernley, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring Creek will take on Elko at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Elko is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Fernley, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Churchill County at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Churchill County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday.
