The Meek Tigers will be playing at home against the Oakman Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Meek has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Oakman will arrive with three straight victories.
Meek suffered their biggest loss yet this season on January 9th. They were dealt a 87-45 loss at the hands of Carbon Hill. While losing is never fun, Meek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Carbon Hill is ranked 103rd).
Meanwhile, Oakman beat Addison 57-47 on Tuesday. Oakman pushed the score to 51-31 by the end of the third, a deficit Addison cut but never quite recovered from.
Oakman can attribute much of their success to Trenton Warren, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Rick Johnson, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Oakman's points. Aidan Carson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven assists.
Meek has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Oakman, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Meek came up short against Oakman when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 63-50. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Johnson, who scored 32 points along with two steals. Now that Meek knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
