There's no place like home for the Mary Persons Bulldogs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past Turner County with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 51-37. Given Mary Persons' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Turner County is ranked 327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mary Persons' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hajar Baldwin-Toles led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaria Wilson, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Mary Persons pushed their record up to 7-2 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Turner County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mary Persons will face off against Crisp County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Turner County, they will head out on the road to face off against Wilcox County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilcox County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
