Whitko is 8-2 against Wabash since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Apaches at 5:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Monday, Whitko needed a bit of extra time to put away Manchester. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Squires. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since March 27th.
Whitko saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Long, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Wabash sidestepped Northwestern for a 5-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Apaches.
Kalli Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Andi Conliff was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Olivia Braun was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Wabash lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Whitko pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Wabash, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Whitko's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wabash, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Whitko continue to outrun the ball? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
