Baseball Recap: Highland Gets the Win

Highland was forced to take a big loss against they on Monday, they got the better of them on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Hobart Brickies. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Brickies on Monday, they had to take a 9-1 defeat.

Caden VanderMeyden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Highland is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Highland's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nate Phillips, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Highland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Hobart, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Hebron at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hobart, they will take on Wheeler at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
