Baseball Game Preview: Whitney Young Dolphins vs. Richards Bulldogs

The Whitney Young Dolphins will challenge the Richards Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Whitney Young will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Von Steuben, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Dolphins came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday.

Isaac Stoelinga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Whitney Young is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-14 otherwise. Stoelinga was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Stoelinga wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kingsley Evans, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Evans has posted over his last 14 games. Another was Tristan Merrill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Whitney Young kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Von Steuben only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Richards entered their tilt with Hillcrest on Thursday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hawks a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Richards pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Whitney Young, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-15.
