The Laughlin Cougars lost against the Awaken Christian Lions back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Laughlin fell just short of the Lions by a score of 38-36.
Laughlin's loss came despite strong showings from Daishanae Jackson and Valeria Quintero. Jackson scored 16 points along with three steals, while Quintero scored 15 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quintero has scored all season.
Phoenix Sharp continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Awaken Christian, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds. Sharp is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Alahna Payne was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Laughlin's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.0 points per game. As for Awaken Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Laughlin will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Needles will be looking to extend their current 20-game winning streak. As for Awaken Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against the Centurions at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
