Basketball Recap: Jayson Guzzo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoehne over Monte Vista

On Friday, the Hoehne Farmers came up short against the Monte Vista Pirates and fell 61-52.

Several Farmers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayson Guzzo, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Zamora, who earned seven points.

Even though they lost, Hoehne was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Azariah Hurtado, who shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards for Monte Vista. Hurtado's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrien Archuleta, who put up nine points.

Hoehne has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Monte Vista, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoehne will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Crowley County at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Monte Vista also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Del Norte at 3:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025.
