The East Palestine Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Newton Falls Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Palestine is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
Last Saturday, East Palestine came up short against Western Reserve and fell 50-41. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite their defeat, East Palestine saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Drew Bycroft, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Bycroft continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Owen Jurjavcic was another key player, putting up 12 points and eight boards.
Newton Falls has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-57 heartbreaker at the hands of LaBrae.
Like East Palestine, Newton Falls lost despite seeing results from several players. Landon McGregor led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Phil Davis, who went 6-for-13 en route to 15 points along with six boards and three steals.
East Palestine now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Newton Falls, their loss dropped their record down to 15-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Palestine has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Newton Falls struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Palestine took a serious blow against Newton Falls in their previous matchup back in February of 2021, falling 63-21. Thankfully for East Palestine, Joey Kline (who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
