If the Campbell County Camels were feeling good off their 57-32 takedown of the Denver East Angels on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Campbell County took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chatfield on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Campbell County came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fifth in Wyoming, while Chatfield is ranked 46th in Colorado).
Despite the defeat, Campbell County had strong showings from Lauren Kuhbacher, who scored eight points along with 18 rebounds and three steals, and Kaylie Neary, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. The match was Neary's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Onna Castellanos, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Campbell County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chatfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josie Lynch, who scored six points along with eight blocks. Those eight blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Jordyn Reed was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Campbell County's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Chatfield, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Campbell County will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Viborg/Hurley at 8:00 a.m. on December 28th. Chatfield will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rangeview at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Rangeview is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
