Carmel is a perfect 10-0 against Soledad since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Padres will venture away from home to square off against the Aztecs at 4:30 p.m. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Carmel made easy work of Rancho San Juan and carried off a 15-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Padres.
Nicole Tapson was a standout: she scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Beals, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Soledad came up short against King City on Tuesday and fell 8-4. The Aztecs haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Kassandra Hernandez was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Maria Villarruel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Arlette Mosqueda was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Carmel pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Soledad, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Carmel's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Padres have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Soledad, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Carmel continue to outrun the ball?
Carmel took their victory against Soledad in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. Do the Padres have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Aztecs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
