After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Western Reserve, Wellington was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They strolled past the Mapleton Mounties with points to spare, taking the game 28-12. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Dukes also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.
Wellington can attribute much of their success to Gaven Wacker, who threw for 128 yards and three TDs on only eight passes. Wacker also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making three total tackles.
Wellington's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Mapleton's QB won't forget Ari Wreyford anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Another thorn in the Mounties' side was Trey Moore, who picked up a sack, made 25 total tackles, and defended one pass.
The win got Wellington back to even at 1-1. As for Mapleton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Looking ahead, Wellington will take on Plymouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mapleton, they will challenge Crestline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
