The Conestoga Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their tenth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 67-42 walloping at the hands of Syracuse. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Conestoga in their matchups with Syracuse: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Conestoga saw an underclassman step up: Ayla Garrett scored 19 points along with four steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Garrett posted two or more blocks. Alyssa Batt was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three blocks.
Conestoga struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Conestoga dropped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Syracuse, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Conestoga won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Nebraska City at 5:45 p.m. on January 26th. Nebraska City comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Syracuse, they will head out on the road to face off against Douglas County West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Douglas County West is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
