Amelia Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Kenston Forest Kavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Amelia Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
Last Friday, Amelia Academy was the victim of a tough 54-31 loss at the hands of Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot.
Amelia Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kyle Anderson, who scored 16 points along with four steals, and Levi Borum who scored nine points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Anderson scored 15 or more points. Jacob Barbour was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 13 rebounds and three steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Kenston Forest gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 80-18 win over Tidewater Academy. Given Kenston Forest's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Tidewater Academy is ranked 438th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kenston Forest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Graham Sledd out in front who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anderson Allen, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists.
Amelia Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Kenston Forest, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Amelia Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Kenston Forest, though, as they've been averaging only 30.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Amelia Academy came up short against Kenston Forest in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 60-56. Can Amelia Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
