3A District 2 recap November 5, 2013
Pojoaque Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 3A District 2. The Elks/Elkettes vanquished Raton 33-28 earlier in the week.
Taos added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Robertson, 14-13. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Tigers.
James Gonzales III provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cardinals lost to Taos.
Martin Bernal was the best receiver in the league this week as Flavio Lopez's team defeated Robertson. Bernal tallied 2 receptions for 36 yards. Larry Martinez helped Taos' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 16 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Kevin McCarty of the Tigers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 810. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Isaac Martinez. The Pojoaque Valley star has 11 catches for 333 yards.
Dominic Lucero of the Leroy Gonzalez's team is only 68 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 111 carries Lucero has put up 932 yards this year.
At the moment, the Tigers are in fourth, while Taos is in first.
Pojoaque Valley led 3A District 2 in scoring this week after putting up 33 points on Raton.
