Layton is 1-9 against the Darts since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Layton Lancers will be playing at home against the Davis Darts at 5:15 p.m. Layton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Darts are ranked fifth).
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Layton, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-45 loss to the Titans. Layton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Layton's defeat came about despite a quality game from Oakley Homer, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roxy Casper, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Davis waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Fremont by a score of 59-46.
Davis found their leader in underclassman T'Maea Eteuati, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Eteuati hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kate Willard, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Layton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Davis, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Layton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Davis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Layton suffered a grim 60-34 defeat to the Darts in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Davis' Kendra Kitchen, who scored 21 points along with four steals and three blocks. Now that Layton knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
