The Bluffton Pirates will square off against the Ridgemont Golden Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bluffton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Ridgemont will be up against a hot Bluffton team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Pirates walked away with a 9-4 win over Riverdale on Tuesday.
HAELEE RAYLE was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. RAYLE was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on PEYTON WORCESTER, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was MACY SCHAADT, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Bluffton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Ridgemont made easy work of Waynesfield-Goshen on Tuesday and carried off a 21-3 victory. That 18-run margin sets a new team best for the Golden Gophers this season.
Like Bluffton, Ridgemont also got a great game from a two-way player: Aubrie Overly. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Overly has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Riley Hites and Addison Coy did most of the damage at the plate: Hites got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Coy went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs. Amara Legge was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ridgemont's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Bluffton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
