The Westminster Lions came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Katella with points to spare, taking the game 84-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Westminster's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vincent Ton led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Matt Tran was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with four steals.
Jace Aikins and Dillon Curtis certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Aikins scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Curtis scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Aikins has scored all season.
Westminster is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Katella, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
Westminster will head out on the road to square off against Godinez Fundamental at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Godinez Fundamental knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Westminster likes a good challenge. As for Katella, they will be playing at home against Garden Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Garden Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
