Scotland is a perfect 7-0 against Union Pines since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Scotland Fighting Scots will venture away from home to face off against the Union Pines Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Scotland will be strutting in after a win while Union Pines will be coming in after a defeat.
Scotland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Southern Lee a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Scots.
Avery Stutts was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Emily Sampson and Addison Ratley did most of the damage at the plate: Sampson scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Ratley scored two runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave Sampson a new career-high in hits. Addison Lewis also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Scotland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Lee only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, Union Pines suffered their closest loss since April 23, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Apex by a score of 6-4. The matchup marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Haven Patterson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Kileigh Cameron, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Scotland's record is now 3-1. As for Union Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Scotland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Union Pines struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Scotland's way against Union Pines in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Scotland made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Scotland since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
