Miguel Diaz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.
At the plate, Marcelo Torres and Jorge Gonzalez did some serious damage despite the final result: Torres scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Gonzalez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, St. Brendan owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They put the hurt on Spanish River with a sharp 7-0 win.
Not much got past Ulpiano Puentes, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Spanish River off the board. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Puentes.
On the hitting side, Alan Perez and Jorge Heredia did most of the damage at the plate: Perez scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Heredia scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Heredia snagged this season. Giannicarlo Guzman-Garcia was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
St. Brendan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
St. Brendan's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Braddock, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3-1.
St. Brendan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Braddock hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for St. Brendan, though, as they've only averaged .232. Will they be able to contain Braddock's hitters?
Everything went Braddock's way against St. Brendan in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Braddock made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Braddock since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
